Commodore's Message

May 29, 2007
The major project undertaken to repair the wharf, and the construction of a breakwater has now been completed. The project was designed to protect our harbour. We now have a much safer environment for our boats, summertime activities of the members, and organizations using the premises.

We have been able to meet our target, and welcome our new members to a great year of boating. Dock space has been provided to everyone that has requested it for the first time in many years.

Our Green Committee will be making landscape changes to the property, and will be busy planting flowers, new trees and shrubs with the help of a number of volunteers. If you are interested in contributing some of your time, knowledge and energy towards this worthwhile endeavour please contact Gordon Foster. Our Green Committee has also taken on the responsibility of ensuring safe and appropriate disposal of all hazardous waste. The protection of our environment is important to us.

OPEN HOUSE:
To celebrate our 100 year anniversary, and the grand opening of the Rothesay Wharf and Breakwater at the Rothesay Yacht Club, we will be having an open house at the Club the afternoon of June 24th, 2007 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. Residents of Rothesay and surrounding communities are invited to participate. Refreshments of water, soft drinks and light snacks will be served. Some members of our club will make their boats available for viewing and take visitors for a trip on the river should there be an interest to do so.

We will be having our RYC Open Race the morning of Sunday June 24th with a Skippers meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The race will start at 10:30 a.m. with the last boat to be finished by 12:30 p.m.

There will be Junior Sailing and Adult Sailing lesson demonstrations and instruction in knots tying used in boating activities will be offered. We will have a raffle for a two hour sail, RYC shirts and hats as prices.

Our club members, and our guests, are asked to please bring a donation of a non-perishable food item as a contribution to the food bank. A container will be placed in the club house to receive your donation.

Thank you, and have a great safe boating year!
