Launch - This weekend - May 30th and 31st

A launch is scheduled for Friday and Saturday this weekend. There are only a few individuals signed up for Friday, so please check later in the week to see if there are any changes to the schedule and to Confirm there is a Friday Launch.

If you haven't done so and plan to launch on one of these days (30th or 31st), please contact Doug Riecken driecken@nb.sympatico.ca directly with your preferred time and who will be moving your boat!

Note that the there is still work to be done on the docks to make them safe for securing your second most valuable hard asset (?) so members who launches this weekend will have to make other arrangements to secure their boat until Hugh Scarth indicates the dock are ready.

Please remember to check back for details on Friday and Start Times.

Docks Update: Sunday May 25, 2008

We had an excellent turnout this weekend to work on the docks. They are taking shape! Unfortunately, there was a mechanical breakdown on the piledriver and we had to stop earlier than planned on Sunday. We hope to resume working on the pile driving on Monday, assuming that the clutch can be repaired. If anyone has time during the day or evenings, beginning around 5:30, please consider coming to the Club. The more we can do during the week the better off we will be.

The final allocation of berths will not be made until boats are cleared to go on the docks. Any layout plan that you might have seen is a work in progress and has not been finalized. We cannot work on the docks effectively if boats are tied to them so please do not tie up to the docks. Docking lines placed prematurely may be in the incorrect place and will have to be moved.

The docks will not be ready for boats this coming weekend. Anybody launching a boat this weekend will have to have a mooring arranged. It may be another week before the docks are ready.

Mitch Sanscartier will be organizing the dock work this weekend. It will be very busy at the Club. Please consider helping with the docks while you are waiting to be launched. For example, of you are launched in the morning you might be able to help during the afternoon.

That is it for now. Reply to me if necessary at hmscarth@nb.sympatico.ca .

LAUNCH - May 30 and 31

We will be launching on May 30 and 31.
There will be a form at the club for people to put in their:

Requested time to launch
and
who will be moving your boat
(You can also email me at driecken@nb.sympatico.ca)

Keep in mind that the yard is full and some boats will have to go in earlier because of this. As such, adjustments will be necessary to tweak the schedule during the launch.

UPDATE

Thanks to the people who have agreed to help with the docks this weekend. However, we are short 3 people for Saturday, short 6 for Sunday morning and short 3 for Sunday afternoon.

Please consider volunteering for one or more of these time slots. It can only happen if we have more help.

Hugh

Work Party May 24 & 25

FROM HUGH SCARTH:
The water level is now down to where we can work on the docks. The plan is to start driving poles on Saturday, line up the docks, and then continue driving the poles after that.

It takes 10-12 people to do that efficiently.

Would you please let me know ASAP what day or days that you can come and how much of each day that you can work? I will then assign people to a day and/or time so that the number of people each day matches the requirement. Your earliest reply would be appreciated.

Please reply to hmscarth@nb.sympatico.ca

Launch Weekend - POSTPONED

Doug Riecken, Director of Launch and Haul, has announced that the launch this weekend has been postponed two to three weeks due to continued high water. (Launch Weekend was scheduled for May 16th & 17th)

Once the water level is low enough to begin pounding pilings, it will take some time to get the docks in shape to safely moor boats at them.

Please stay tuned for further updates, both via this Blog or by email.

Successful Weekend

The volunteers got a lot accomplished on Saturday. Most of A & B docks were connected. As a result, they were able take Sunday off to spend it with their mothers.

Larry Cain said; "Johnny and the staff will get the rest of the docks lined up and connected next week. If you didn’t make it out today, have no fear, we’ll need lots of help once the water drops enough to start driving pilings. Thanks to all that turned out today. Great team effort."

Thanks for organizing this weekend, Larry.

Here are some pictures from Bruce Hurst of the day:

Weekend - May 10 & 11 - Work Parties

There are 12 people who have volunteered to work on Saturday and 9 for Sunday.

Thanks to all those who have offered to help this weekend.

For everyone else, please keep in mind that additional help will likely be required next weekend, if we are going to get the docks in as quickly as we can once the water recedes.

Check back here for progress as we prepare for Summer 2008!

Work Party Required for This Weekend

The Goal for this weekend, as indicated by the Director of Berths & Docks, Hugh Scarth; "will be to compete the assembly of the docks into "A", "B", "C" Docks."

The plan is to have 4-6 people to run the whalers and others to help with repairs to damaged docks.

Hugh is suggesting a 9 AM start time.

Please let me know when you would be able to assist - Saturday or Sunday.

Water Rising

According to the River Forecast, water levels will continue to rise in the Quispamsis-Saint John district for the next two days. The forecast does not go beyond that. By Thursday the water level is expected to be 0.5 m below 2005 levels. We will have to wait until Wednesday to find out if it has peaked or not.

I see that a number of boats have been moved at the club as of 6:00 PM this evening. For those who haven't made it down, the water is over parts of the paved road to the club at high tide.

It should also be noted that there are some small boats / dingys that could be floating when the water goes up. In fact there is one wooden boat upside down that is fully surrounded by the river water.

***Please stay tuned for updates on the potential need for work parties for the weekend. ***
